Creative Juices

I went out on a limb today and attended my first luncheon with the AAFSB. It was held in downtown Shreveport in the Red River District at CoHabitat. The speaker was Nikki Arnell who is the Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at Arkansas State University. She spoke on “Keeping Your Creatives Creative!” I wasn’t sure what to expect or what I might do with the information. I realized that she was speaking to me.

I have been in a rut for the past year or so. I started Art Studio Graphics 15 years ago, but I sort of got sidetracked. I bought a rodeo newspaper in 2001 and was editor, publisher, art director, salesman, etc. You see where I’m going… I sold it almost two years ago and I needed a break. Being creative is not a job, it’s who you are. It’s really difficult to describe, but Nikki did an excellent job of doing that today. She inspired me to go back to my office and write this blog.

I need to get back on track. I recently bought my first apple computer and I am loving it. I hate learning new programs but if you want to stay current that is what you have to do. I am learning Lightroom and Illustrator. I have always been a fan of Freehand but I don’t have the Mac version and I have been wanting to learn Illustrator. So no more excuses!

I took the following photo this past weekend in Llano, Texas. We went on an exotic hunt for fallow and axis deer. This is one of their small whitetail does.

  1. Good information. I’ve started being more creative myself. I’m working on a painting and teaching myself to play harmonica.
